Using the Battle of Gettysburg as a vehicle to examine leadership is a particularly effective tool. The seminar examines several key situations and decisions of the battle at locations on the battlefield. Because we are intimately familiar with the decisions and their consequences, these decisions may be subjected to dispassionate critical analysis. The participant will stand where the battlefield leaders stood, be introduced to the situation in which each leader found himself, then be given the opportunity to discuss the decision he was required to make. Participants will then look at the actual decision made by that leader, the reasons behind the decision, and its consequences.
Immediately following the discussion of events at Gettysburg, participants will explore how the lessons learned from the leader's decision apply to our officers today.
