Giuseppe Vasari (1934-2005) was an Italian sculptor who specialised in stone and metal work.
This complete 32-piece authentic Vasari Crusades chess set is a work of art: kings and queens as Medieval monarchs, bishops as heraldic knights with full helmets, knights as horses' heads, rooks as turrets, pawns as foot soldiers. Each piece is a well-defined sculpture with unique facial features, armour and a ready-for-battle stance. Gold gilt metal and circular stone base. Each piece is signed at the bottom by the artist and stamped “Made in Italy.”
The playing board is not included.
Overall condition is excellent, with minor wear and scratches at bottom of base, consistent with age and use. Pawn pieces measure 3" x 1 1/2". The remaining pieces are all approximately 3 1/2" x 1 3/4". Each piece carefully and individually wrapped for shipping.
