The Tripp Lite U208-002-IND is a two-port USB to serial adapter that turns a single USB-A connection into two nine-pin RS-422 or RS-485 ports. It gives any computer without native serial outputs the ability to communicate with industrial controllers, barcode scanners, modems, GPS receivers, and other legacy hardware.

A proven FTDI chipset manages the data flow and keeps COM port numbers locked in place, so software settings stay intact after every reboot or reconnection. This feature saves setup time in laboratories, production lines, warehouses, and field service laptops where reliability matters.

Each port has its own DIP switch that lets you choose RS-422 or RS-485 operation and fine-tune termination or bias options without software utilities. Speeds up to 1 Mbps support fast transactions for data collection, machine control, and remote monitoring.

The enclosure is made of metal and built for areas exposed to vibration, dust, or temperature changes. Integrated electrostatic discharge protection shields connected equipment, and the adapter draws power directly from the USB bus, eliminating the need for an external supply when space is tight.

Compatibility with Windows, macOS, and Linux makes the adapter practical for mixed-platform environments. Tripp Lite supplies a USB cable, a driver disc, and backs the unit with a two-year limited warranty.

Highlights:
  • Adds two RS-422 or RS-485 ports to a computer through one USB-A connection
  • FTDI chipset provides COM port retention for consistent device numbering
  • DIP switches on each port allow independent configuration
  • Supports serial data rates up to 1 Mbps
  • Metal housing resists harsh industrial conditions and includes ESD protection
  • Powered by the USB bus; no external power brick required
  • Works with Windows, macOS, and Linux systems
  • Backward compatible with USB 1.1 hosts
  • Package includes USB cable and driver disc
  • Covered by a two-year limited warranty
